Exploring Digital Art: A New Creative Frontier

As the creative world continues to evolve, digital art has emerged as a dynamic and accessible form of expression. At Studio 48, we’re excited to introduce Digital Arty Tuesdays, a five-week evening course designed for adults who are eager to explore this medium. Digital art is not just for professional illustrators or tech-savvy creatives; with the right tools and support, anyone can begin to experiment with digital drawing, painting, and animation.

Why Digital Art?

Digital art bridges the gap between creativity and technology. It allows artists to work more flexibly, try out bold ideas without the fear of making mistakes, and experiment with tools and techniques that aren’t available in traditional media. From layers and undo buttons to animated drawings and graphic design, the digital space offers many possibilities.

More than a trend, digital art is becoming increasingly relevant across industries, from gaming and film to advertising and education. But beyond professional applications, it’s also just plain fun. There's something deeply satisfying about watching your ideas come to life on screen, with just a few swipes and clicks.

What to Expect from Digital Arty Tuesdays

Our sessions have been designed to introduce you to the world of digital art in a relaxed, friendly, and supportive environment. Over five weeks, you’ll have the chance to explore different apps, tools, and approaches to digital creativity. We’ll provide each participant with an art tablet for use, so no need to bring your own.

Each week we’ll work on a brand-new project, designed to both challenge and inspire. Whether it's digital painting, basic animation, or experimenting with colour and texture, every class is a fresh opportunity to grow your skills and expand your creative thinking.

You don’t need any experience in digital art—or even in art at all—to join this course. The classes are suitable for all levels, and our welcoming atmosphere makes it easy to learn at your own pace. If you’re nervous about trying something new, know that we’ve created a space where exploration is encouraged, and perfection is never the goal.

For those with a background in traditional art, this course offers an excellent opportunity to transfer those skills into a digital context. Many of the principles of drawing and painting carry over, and the ability to use familiar techniques in new ways can be both exciting and empowering.

Endless Experimentation

One of the joys of digital art is that it invites play. With no risk of wasting paper or paint, and a seemingly infinite variety of tools and effects at your fingertips, digital art encourages experimentation. You can layer colours, erase mistakes, animate your doodles, or turn a simple line drawing into a fully realised design, all without ever leaving your tablet.

Digital art is a skill that will serve you well long into the future, whether you pursue it as a hobby, a professional tool, or a form of personal expression. Our course gives you a chance to explore it in an encouraging, low-pressure setting, with expert instruction. As creative industries increasingly incorporate digital skills, having a foundational understanding of digital tools can open doors, even if those doors are simply to new forms of self-expression.
