art history

in an artist's studio

This course will focus on learning art in a fun way, within a supportive and relaxed creative environment. It will help to develop skills in drawing and painting, as we examine line & shading, perspective, composition, and figurative drawing. We will also look at different materials, such as clay and plaster, as various craft techniques are explored.

Every week we cover a different artist, such as Picasso, Van Gogh, or Cezanne, to introduce their work and bring in elements of art history. Students will then learn how to present their own work, and how to effectively positively comment on the art pieces of others. We will also learn how to overcome obstacles and artistic blocks that can halt creativity.

In a warm and encouraging atmosphere, this course will boost confidence and foster creativity. Being in a real artist’s working studio environment is fun for the children, as they learn what it means to be an artist. The classes are small and a nurturing environment so that they have the capacity to let their imagination and creativity blossom.

About

Studio 48 is located on Newhaven Road. All classes are taught by me, Sally-Ann Johns, in my working studio. My passion is encouraging young artists in a supportive and friendly environment. I have been working in the arts for 20 years, from making and selling pieces to exhibiting internationally, and have for the last 8 years been running my own classes and workshops. From young and old, beginners to aspiring art college graduates, an art education is possible for all types of people. I am a member of the Scottish Artist Union, PVG disclosed and Public Liability Insured.

I send out the odd update with information about new classes. Follow me on social media to see photos of the children's work.
